Norio Murakami
President - Google Japan Inc.
Murakami joined Google Japan Inc. in April 2003 as President. He has all the responsibilities for Google's business in Japan, including search engine service, Google Sponsored Link service, and Tokyo R&D Center.
Before joining Google, Murakami was President at Docent Japan. He established the Japanese subsidiary in November 2001. He built the solid foundation of leadership position of Docent in Japan eLearning industry through many partnerships including Accenture, NEC, and Works Applications while he also put his effort to win lots of customers.
Between August 1997 to May 1999, Murakami was President & CEO of Northern Telecom Japan. After he successfully merged and integrated the company to Bay Networks Japan whose parent company had been acquired by Northern Telecom, he was continuously positioned as President & CEO of Nortel Networks Japan through July 2001. With the transformation of the business from circuit switch centric to IP oriented Murakami increased the revenue and profit to the historically highest in 2000.
Murakami started his career as a system engineer for mini-computer system at Hitachi Electronics K.K. in 1970. Before Northern Telecom, he also played various management roles such as CEO Japan & VP Corporate at Informix and Board Director for Marketing at Digital Equipment Corporation(DEC) Japan including five years assignment to its parent company DEC in Massachusetts.
Murakami graduated Kyoto University, and has BS in Engineering.
