Michael Korver - Michael Korver, Daiwa Securities Group Chaired Visiting Professor International Business Strategy for the MBA program at Hitotsubashi University.

Profile
Michael was born and raised in Tokyo. He received a BA (1979) and MA (1983) in Economics and a JD (1983) from the University of California at Berkeley. He is a member of the Bars of the States of New York and California. Michael developed a unique insider's perspective on Japanese business from his experience as a financial analyst from 1984 until 1987 with a large Japanese securities company and as an international transactions lawyer with law firms in New York and Tokyo from 1987 until 1993. From 1993 until 2002 Michael worked as a business consultant specializing in cross-border entrepreneurial opportunities and as a Vice President in charge of legal and business affairs with a global media company in Tokyo. He co-founded Global Venture Capital (GVC), an independent Tokyo-based venture capital firm, in 1996 and is a managing partner of its 4th fund. Since its inception, GVC has cumulatively managed over 2.4 billion yen, which has been invested in over 25 venture businesses. He is also a co-founder of (and currently advisor to) Alchemedia Inc., a Tokyo-based IT services company. Michael has been teaching in the MBA program of the Graduate School of International Corporate Strategy at Hitotsubashi University since 2002 and was appointed a professor there in 2005. He is the author of �gPrivate Equity: Kachi Sozo no Toshi Shuho�h (Toyo Keizai, 1999), the first book-length treatment of private equity investing published in Japanese.
